The guide

Biography

My name is Kabir.

I've walked the trails of Essaouira and its surroundings since childhood, with insatiable curiosity and a passion that has never faded.

A professional guide in natural settings for fifteen years, I speak French and Spanish. I lead hikes, treks and bivouacs.

My specialty: to offer you beauty and pleasure through a return to nature. You'll discover the singular landscapes of my region, its fauna and flora, the wide-open spaces, the mythic places, its history, its ecology — and warm human encounters with the local people.

The agency

Who we are

The pearl of the Atlantic, its open-air museum — the sails are unfurled to catch the trade winds and the captivating treasures of nature.

Caracol Adventures specialises in hiking, trekking and outdoor activities in the Essaouira region. We organise adventure trips in groups, with family, or tailored to your needs — journeys that guide you toward familiar or mysterious lands.

Largely accessible to everyone, these journeys range from a few hours of walking per day to more demanding treks, especially along the beach and into the mountains.

Our standard

Service standards

We pay close attention to the quality of every service provided during your activity.

Our pledge

Social commitment

We offset every tonne of carbon emitted by our journeys.

The philosophy

Our values, our spirit

This is Caracol Adventures: just big enough to be serious and reliable for our travellers and our local teams, just small enough to come alive on every journey and free ourselves from certain limits. Complex logistics don't scare us.

We have been passionate from the very first hour, pioneers. From Cap Sim to the salt road, from the trade winds of the far North to the warmth of the South, not a single corner of the province has escaped us.

Our curiosity for the world is insatiable. We have walked a great deal, but our state of mind remains the same. Adventure is an opening — onto the world, onto others, and finally onto oneself…

Chapter I

The magician of the earth

From our travel notebooks, we have erased the word impossible. In the lands of Caracol Adventures, we will see to it that the roof of your dream nest touches the sky, gliding like a mythical eagle or a visitor from another world.

There are no predetermined paths. Strike with your staff: the sea and the rock will open before you. What you seek seeks you too. What you desire will appear in the blink of an eye — in your hands, or, so to speak, right at your feet.

The tailor of your steps, with the wool of your footprints, will weave for you a carpet in the colours of the rainbow, immortalising your historic passage like a film star at a festival of nature.

Chapter II

The butterfly effect

Like spirited horses… thoughts, visions and dreams announce the unknown that flows in our veins, a new name for the rose.

My dear comrade, step by step, drop by drop, the path overflows with light.

Chapter III

Our walkers' philosophy

We create journeys that mean something.

We have always loved those who upend habits and received ideas: adventurers, the curious, dreamers too. Those who take their time.

Walking imposed itself on us as the best path to feel, to marvel at landscapes, and to be closer to others.

Simplicity and availability are an integral part of our walkers' philosophy.

And they are not quite the same on the way back.

The inspiration wall

Inspirations

Dream, explore, travel.

Nature and the wide-open spaces offer us thousands of adventures and countless surprises. To guide you, we have built this inspiration wall: it evolves with the seasons and with our discoveries. You will surely find what suits you here.

You hear the sound of your footsteps, you hear the wind in the trees… you hear your thoughts, you listen to the beating of your heart.

For the whole family

Family escape

Wonder, together

At Caracol Adventures, we understand the importance of wondering together as a family. Each place has its own charm and an infinite appeal, offering an ideal playground for dreams, experiences and adventures — guaranteeing memories that endure.

Whether on hikes or in the discovery of the fascinating Berber cultures, we turn your family journey into a truly magical moment. We share inspiring, varied experiences: primitive childhood games built on natural resources — simple, accessible, fun — with stones, sticks, ropes. We craft entertainment out of nothing, far from phones and electronic games.

We enjoy the experience of riding camel and donkey, and we learn how to care for them. On the mountainside, we take on the role of little geologists, armed with small hammers to unearth the past in search of minerals and fossils.

We mirror the fundamental Berber skills of the art of living freely and in perfect harmony with nature. We follow in the footsteps of the nomads to understand how to read directions, geography, climate and weather. To identify medicinal plants, herbs, and the ones that are edible.

Join the Caracol Adventures caravan, where as a family we discover ancestral ways of living: bushcraft, how to master fire, how to build durable shelters from natural materials (branches, bark), how to find our way without a compass, recognise animal tracks, fashion cordage, containers, or wooden utensils.

Many educational and recreational workshops are planned for young and not-so-young alike. The trails of Mogador are waiting for you.

For seasoned hikers

Call of the great landscapes

Exploring these long trails in their entirety is an extraordinary journey, offering breathtaking panoramas, deep valleys and magnificent mountain ranges. This experience is designed for hikers used to sustained effort, who wish to discover diverse natural environments.

From the gulf of Tafadna, passing through the valley and the waterfall of Sidi Ambarek, to the hills of Ahmed Sayah and the deserted beaches of Cap Sim — where Soumille is a dune that resembles the surface of Mars.

We could go very far to climb the summit of Amsitne and to enter deep into the region of Amntlit, before descending into the valleys of Nknafa with their captivating landscapes and their unique rock formations, adding a touch of luxury to this complete adventure.

Revealing the spirit and serenity of wild nature amid arid landscapes, dense forests and vast mountain passes, we invite you to join us for unique encounters. Each destination promises extraordinary discoveries — not ordinary ones, but doors opened onto worlds of adventure.

Dear walkers, are you ready to answer the call of true adventure?

By calèche

Far, close to the heart

A calèche ride

From the Bab Doukala gate, a calèche carries us to the outskirts of the city. Picture this: it takes only a few minutes for us to be immersed in nature. We bring back to life the outings of an era long past, following in the steps of the old Souiri families.

An escape, a small chouya away from the tranquillity of the medina, in search of a deeper peace and serenity. Our outing is light and pleasant, two to three hours long, in a simple and convivial atmosphere.

Whether it is the green belt — a zone of ecological importance included in the Ramsar programme for wetlands — where lagoons nestle at the foot of sandy hills surrounded by mimosas and eucalyptus, where ducks and gulls swim and feed on plankton and insects. We will take small narrow paths, and at the top of the hill, a panoramic view of the city, the island and the harbour awaits us.

Or our second destination, north of Essaouira: the beach of Safi, a forgotten jewel hidden behind the forest and the sand dunes, where the forest blends harmoniously with the colour of the sand and the blue of the ocean, stretching to the edges of Moulay Bouzerktoun.

This truly tranquil beach, visited only by a few wanderers and fishermen, is an ideal Sunday destination — combining a visit to the weekly market with its particular atmosphere among the sellers of vegetables, fruit, the flea market and antiques, and the discovery of the workshops of self-taught bohemian artists.

Our fundamentals

The 5 principles

Ecology

We want to continue enjoying the beauties of our planet. As makers of journeys, it is our duty to protect it. From the very beginning of Caracol Adventures, respect for the environment has been at the heart of our concerns.

Today, we are proud of our contribution to the reduction of GHG emissions. We support many reforestation projects centred on the thuya and other forest species. Dear walkers, we carry with us young junipers, thuyas, herbs and plants to plant during our forest excursions.

Wide-open spaces

We love the silence and the feeling of freedom that come from the wide-open spaces still left wild. In the desert, the mountain, the forest — the pleasure of feeling very small in the face of nature is immense. Take in, breathe deeply, savour as an aesthete the simplicity rediscovered.

Encounter

Encounter takes many forms on our journeys: from your first contact who helps you choose your destination, to those with whom you share a stretch of the road — by way of your guides and the locals who will tell you the beautiful stories of their region.

Of course, the unexpected is also the charm of meeting: at the bend of a trail, you will very likely cross paths with other peoples, other cultures and other points of view that will feed your relationship with otherness.

Mythic places

Some places of our small great Mogadorian world have always made us dream. They thus catalysed the obvious: we had to reveal them. These lands of adventure have marked our history and today belong fully to our DNA — the Sahara, the wild beaches, the Bouzmoune cave, or the heights of the Iron Mountain.

In these mythic places, we have crossed paths with the souls of those who made their lives there: explorers, saints, caravaneers, fishermen, Berbers, nomads. They are still present in our minds when we conceive a new adventure.

Walking

Walking is our point of departure and arrival — our way of giving rhythm to discovery and of being actors in our own experience.
